MPTC TOUR OF LUZON 2026 HONORS CYCLING LEGEND PAQUITO RIVAS

Manila, Philippines – The 2026 MPTC Tour of Luzon will spotlight legacy as it honors one of Philippine cycling’s most iconic figures, Paquito Rivas, while also
offering the largest prize pool in the event’s history.

Dubbed “Heritage in Motion,” this year’s Tour elevates both prestige and purpose. At the heart of the event is the honoring of Rivas, famously known as the “Eagle of the Mountain,” whose dominance in high-altitude climbs defined an era of Philippine cycling.

His legacy will be immortalized through the King of the Mountain Polka Dot Jersey, now named in his honor. This symbolic gesture celebrates his unmatched feats, including three victories in the grueling Burgos to Baguio Individual Time Trial in 1973, 1974, and 1979.

The commemorative jersey will be contested across key mountain stages, culminating in the final ascent to Baguio, the very terrain where Rivas cemented his legendary status.

“We are truly honored to celebrate the legacy of Paquito Rivas in this year’s Tour,” said Arrey Perez, CEO of MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026. “Manong Paquing deserves this recognition for his lasting impact on Philippine cycling, and we hope this tribute will inspire a new generation of riders to pursue greatness with the same dedication and heart.”

Alongside this historic homage, the Tour raises the stakes with unprecedented rewards. The Team General Classification Champion will take home ₱2 million, while the Individual General Classification winner will receive ₱1 million. Additional prizes will be awarded across team and individual rankings, as well as jersey competitions such as Sprint King, Best Young Rider, and stage-based honors, bringing the total prize pool to P12 million.
