The MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026 has reached its halfway point, and organizers are expressing strong satisfaction with the event’s progress. Now in its second year following its revival, the tour continues to deliver on its goal of providing a safe, fair, and world-class experience not only for the cyclists, but for the entire delegation.
“Maybe it was only the first half, pero overwhelmed kami for the support we are receiving specially from the local government, ngayon pa lang I want to extend and share to them the success of OUR shared MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026,” said Arrey Perez, CEO and Chief Organizer of the MPTC Tour of Luzon 2026.
During the Mid-Race Media Press Briefing, Race Director Jun Lomibao highlighted the impact of foreign teams and riders in elevating the level of competition. He noted that their participation pushes Filipino cyclists to perform at their best, while also giving them the platform and recognition they deserve on a larger stage.
Also present during the press conference were the current top contenders in the Individual General Classification after seven stages. Leading the standings is Mervin Corpuz of the 7 Eleven Cliqq Roadbike Philippines Team. He is followed by Yousef Ibrahiem Alrefai of LCW UAE Cycling Team in second place, while Nikita Shulchenko, also from LCW UAE Cycling Team, currently holds the Yellow Jersey as the overall leader. Joining them was defending champion Dae Yeong Joo of Gapyeong Cycling Team, along with team managers and coaches from participating squads.
The MPTC Tour of Luzon will resume tomorrow following a scheduled rest day, beginning with Stage 8 from Pagudpud to Paoay. This stage is expected to be crucial, especially after significant shifts in the rankings following the Individual Time Trial. With two key King of the Mountain (KOM) stages ahead, Stage 10 in Bessang Pass and the challenging Baguio leg, the competition remains wide open, promising an exciting battle for the overall title.
