The Great Revival in 2025: Tour of Luzon 2025 Officially Kicks Off

Pasig City, Philippines – April 18, 2025 — In a landmark moment for Philippine cycling, the official media conference of The Great Revival in 2025: Tour of Luzon 2025 was successfully held at The LightHouse, Meralco Building, Pasig City. The event marked the official launch of one of the country’s most anticipated sporting events, signaling a vibrant return of Asia’s oldest cycling race.

The media launch, attended by accredited media partners, sports officials, cycling enthusiasts, and distinguished guests, unveiled the exciting developments, timeline, and race details of this year’s Tour of Luzon. The conference offered a sneak peek into what promises to be a historic and thrilling comeback — one that brings back the glory days of Philippine cycling and pushes the sport into a new era.

Gracing the launch were some of the most influential figures in Philippine sports and government. Leading the welcome address was Tagaytay City Mayor Hon. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who also holds the pivotal roles of President of the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines and President of the Philippine Olympic Committee. Mayor Tolentino highlighted the importance of the Tour in reviving national pride and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through sports. “This is more than just a race — it’s a revival of our country’s rich cycling history, and a showcase of Filipino endurance, unity, and excellence,” he remarked.

Joining him in delivering the welcome messages was Arrey Perez, Chief Regulatory Officer of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), one of the tour’s key presenting partners. Perez emphasized the corporation’s commitment to nation-building, sports development, and regional connectivity through the support of initiatives like the Tour of Luzon. “MPTC is proud to be part of this endeavor. As our expressways connect islands and communities, so does the Tour of Luzon connect Filipinos with their passion for sports and national pride,” he shared.

Also present at the event was Richard “Dickie” Bachmann, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, who underscored the commission’s support for the cycling revival. “Tour of Luzon is a movement to reignite grassroots enthusiasm and international recognition for Philippine cycling. We at PSC are here to make sure that it thrives now more than ever,” said Bachmann.

The highlight of the conference was the comprehensive race briefing led by Mr. Jun Lomibao Jr., Race Director for the Tour of Luzon 2025. Lomibao detailed the race logistics, including the route, safety measures, and operational plans. This year’s tour will cover approximately 1,050 kilometers, starting with the Opening Ceremony and Team Presentation in Laoag City on April 24, and culminating with the final stage in the mountain city of Baguio on May 1.

The tour promises not just a test of speed and stamina, but also a visual celebration of the Philippines’ diverse geography — from coastal landscapes and bustling cityscapes to mountain climbs and countryside roads. Each leg of the race offers its own unique challenge, pushing the riders to dig deep and fans to cheer harder.

The event concluded with inspiring closing remarks from Mr. Patrick G. Gregorio, Chairman of DuckWorld PH, co-presenter of the tour alongside MPTC. DuckWorld PH, a brand synonymous with youth, movement, and color, adds a modern and energetic twist to this historic race. “We believe in the power of sport to unite communities and uplift spirits. The Tour of Luzon is more than just a cycling race — it’s a celebration of Filipino grit and greatness,” said Gregorio.
